A busy directory has something valuable: thousands of people looking for a group to join, and group owners who want those people. Here are five ways to turn that into income, from the quickest to set up to the most ambitious.
1. Featured listings
Group and channel owners pay to be seen first. With the Featured Listings extension you create plans — for example 7 days and 30 days — with a price text of your choice. A member picks one of their links and a plan, pays you by UPI, bank transfer or any other way you accept, and sends the payment reference. You approve the request and the link is featured: it shows first in lists, gets a badge and appears in the featured section of the homepage. When the time is up, the feature ends by itself.
Because the payment is made to you directly, there is no gateway to set up and no commission to pay.
2. Display ads
The Ad Manager extension has ten slots: under the header, above, inside and below lists, at the top, side and bottom of link pages, on the leaving page and above the footer. Paste your AdSense code or any other ad network's code into the slots you want. Two options matter:
- No ads for signed-in members — a nice reward for your regular submitters.
- No ads on adult pages — most ad networks require it.
The leaving page, shown for a few seconds before a group opens, is often the best-performing slot. Keep its safety notice: it protects your visitors and your reputation.
3. Direct sponsorships
Coaching institutes, job portals and local businesses often want to reach one niche. Sell them a fixed spot — the announcement bar at the top of every page, a slot in the Ad Manager, or a sponsored blog post — for a monthly fee.
4. Partners and the public API
The Embed Widget lets other websites show a live list of your links — by type, category and order — with every click leading back to your directory. Offer it free to bloggers in your niche to grow traffic, or as a paid white-label service. The Public API goes further: issue API keys with read or submit permission and a rate limit per key, and charge partners for access.
5. Your own app
A directory app on Google Play brings users back daily and opens app-only ad revenue. The WAGroups Android app works with your directory's public API, so it needs no extra server work — set your website address and key, add your name and icon, and publish.
Keep trust first
Income grows with traffic, and traffic grows with trust. Label featured links clearly, never feature scams for money, and keep the moderation tools on. A directory that people trust earns for years.
